![]() ![]() Sometimes I can use that to my advantage, by doing things that are overall positive for myself, because I know that it will make other people react to me more positively. So if I think that someone doesn't like the way I'm behaving or acting, then I'll try and change that. what works for you? Can you think of a time when you've managed to make a successful change in your life? What motivated you to start? And more importantly, what motivated you to carry on to the finish line and beyond?įor me, motivation to change comes strongly from how other people see me, not myself. So they're naturally going to offer different conclusions about how best to effect change in your life. Maybe the former type of person wrote Atomic Habits, and the latter type of person wrote Motivation Myth. ![]() Those kind of people are probably the more practical and pragmatic types, who would rather do, as opposed to say and think. Those people will probably have a strong self-image, and act consistently with their self-image - because how they see themselves matters.įor other people, change does come as a result of hard work - because just thinking and visualising something isn't going to work. To change your view and say to yourself "I am not a smoker" or "I am not a gambler". the right answer is whatever works for you.įor some people, the first step in fixing a habit is to be a different person. It's the equivalent of kids in the playground saying "No, Team Red is better!" "No, Team Blue is better!" Joining a study group, buying supplements or running shoes, even reading motivational books - these are secondary to the fact that you have to do the thing that will achieve your goals. I also noticed that the way you phrase your dilemma seems a little wonky - "Do I study, or do I do things that help me study?" "Do I run, or do I purchase stuff that helps me feel like an athlete?" I'd like to address that specifically.įirst and foremost, if you want to do something, you have to do it. The process you choose may not feel good all the time - it probably won't - but you have to choose something that you enjoy at least sometimes. If you start a routine or goal system that doesn't feel good to you, you won't stick with it over time - no matter how many books or people say it is the perfect method.
